Lake Zemplínska šírava
Well-known holiday resort of Lake Zemplínska šírava belongs to the warmest regions in Slovakia. Overwhelming number of tropical days and nights make this second largest water reservoir in Slovakia an important tourist centre of the Zemplín region.
Water surface has the area of 33 km2, the length of 11 km, the width of 3,5 km, the average depth of 9,5 m, with the maximum depth of 14 m. Lake Zemplínska šírava provides exceptionally favourable conditions for swimming, water sports, fishing and hiking.

Biela hora
The resort of Biela Hora is the closest resort to the town. It is situated just 3 km from Michalovce. The area of the resort is 120 000 m2. There is parking for 300 cars. The terrain of the resort is slightly inclined and grassy. The beaches are gravelly. A wide network of fast food snack bars, a restaurant, water-bikes rental and a volleyball pitch are at the visitors’s disposal. The resort is under the administration of the village of Vinné.
Hôrka
Hôrka is one of the best-equipped resorts of the area. Gravelly and grassy beaches are stretched over the area of 60 000 m2. From the north the resort is protected by morphologically interesting hills of High and Low Senderov. A wide network of restaurants, hotels, fancy snack bars dominate the resort. Car parks providing space for 700 cars are very well designed. There is a big shopping centre, post office, medical centre and pharmacy, harbour, rental of water-bikes and boats, sport facility with tennis courts, volleyball and basketball pitch, minigolf, children area. Amphitheatre with the capacity of 3000 people is the centre of the cultural activities. The resort is under the administration of the village of Vinné.
Medvedia hora
The resort Medvedia Hora is located on a peninsula of volcanic origin, 9 km from the town of Michalovce. There is a carpark for 200 cars. The area of the resort is 30 000 m2. The restaurants and snack bars provide catering, and there is a rental of boats and water-bikes. The resort is under the administration of the village of Vinné.
Kaluža
The resort Kaluža is situated 10 km from Michalovce. The relief of the resort (grassy and hilly) as well as its infrastructure is exceptionally suitable for a holiday in caravans. There is also a big number of restaurants, hotels, a water-bike rental, sport pitches and amusement attractions. The resort Kaluža is attractive for its location right in the middle of Lake Zemplínska šírava area.
The first reference of the village of Kaluža, according to the available records, comes from 1336, however, according to the once existing Greek-Catholic chronicle the village was founded in the 12th century, contemporaneously with the village of Vinné and the Vinné castle. The village is located in the centre of the holiday resort and is the gateway to the resort Kaluža. A number of recreational facilities belonging to large companies are located within the village area, providing recreational services, catering and accommodation, which is also provided in the village in private family houses, or cottages and cabins situated throughout the northern part of Lake Zemplínska šírava. The resort is under the administration of the village of Kaluža.
Kamenec
The resort Kamenec is stretched on the area of 16 000 m2. It is mainly used for committed tourism. The picturesque inlet at the Motel Kamenec with a gravelly beach, exceptionally suitable for all kinds of water sports, is frequently visited. A campsite** within the resort Kamenec has the capacity of 50 tent units. The resort is under the administration of the village of Kaluža.
Klokočov
One of the newest resorts of Lake Zemplínska šírava is the resort Klokočov situated 12 km from Michalovce. There is a campsite** with the capacity of 200 tent and caravan units. The resort is under the administration of the village of Kaluža.
The village of Klokočov is located at the southern foothills of the Vihorlat Hills, around 117 metres above sea level, at the centre of the area of Lake Zemplínska šírava. It is the centre of accumulated tourism. To the cadastral area of the village, the resorts of Lake Zemplínska šírava – Klokočov, a part of Kamenec and Paľkov belong, providing the accommodation possibilities with services in the tourist facilities as well as catering. According to the historical documents, the first reference of the village comes from 1358. It was based as a matter of purchase law and it belonged to landlords from Michalovce. The village is a famous pilgrim spot, with a lot of believers coming to the Church of St. Mary’s Ascension to see the picture of Virgin Mary, which is said to have cried in 1670 after being desecrated by heretics. The picture – the original icon was painted by an unknown painter on wood. The present-day picture of Virgin Mary in Klokočov is the second replica crowned in 1948.
Paľkov
The last resort of the recreational area designed for tourism is Paľkov. The huge area of the resort is capable to accommodate almost 1200 tent and caravan units. It is ideal for a family holiday connected with water sports and fishing. The resort Paľkov is expecting its discovery, as its surroundings feature undergraound resources of thermal water springs. The resort is under the administration of the village of Kaluža.
