Zemplín Museum
Zemplín Museum in Michalovce was founded in 1957 as Zemplín Geographical Museum, and it has had its present-day name since 1965. The collection and expositions of the museum are located in the premises of the baroque-classicistic castle of aristocrats from the village of Staré and Michalovce. The castle was built in the 17th century by a reconstruction of an older castle. The last reconstruction was carried out in the 1830s, when the castle was rebuilt to its present-day shape. Zemplín Museum documents animate and inanimate nature, overall cultural, historical and economical development of the region of Zemplín. The collections and expositions are located in the castle building. The castle, the former adjacent authority and household buildings, as well as reconstructed foundations of an important sacral building - rotunda, located in the museum premises are part of the cultural heritage.

Among the most remarkable exhibits belong cranes, buzzards and carpathian deers. There is 247 bird species and 46 mammal species exposed in the exposition. The exposition is revived by recorded voices of some of the animals.

Antrophomorphic and zoomorphic neolithic plastic arts, a set of golden ornaments from eneolite period (the oldest evidence of gold-processing in the territory of Slovakia) and copper tools, weapons, jewellery and pottery from latency period belong to the most precious exhibits. An amphora from the Bronze Age with the oldest illustration of a two-wheeler in Central Europe is the particularly valuable and unique exhibit. The exposition exhibits the most valuable objects of the archaelogical collection, which includes over 40000 pieces.

Gothic Pieta, Renaissance and Baroque sculptures of Saints, as well as a collection of icons and liturgical objects stand out among the exhibits. Oil paintings by T. J.
